What Is Hyponatremia?

Believe it or not, severe hyponatremia (or, water intoxication) can be fatal, it causes an imbalance of electrolytes that are essential for transporting water through the body as well as regulates nerves and major organs. The condition must be addressed immediately. Although many people (especially those who are serious about their health) believe they should drink lots and lots of water we should all be reasonable.

It is quite serious to deprive the body of sodium, (as well as electrolytes) a mineral that is essential for the health of the nerves, as well as major organs in the body. Certain people are more likely to develop hyponatemia than others. Fortunately, for an individual to reach the true extent of hyponatemia is extremely unusual. Though a rare condition (by medical standards) hyponatemia is nonetheless becoming more and more likely to occur because people are so convinced that they should drink more water than they actually should.

People can really suffer and so can their physical exercise programs when their sodium levels drop due to over-hydration. One of the primary symptoms is weakness: especially muscular weakness. Your body is aching, and all of a sudden you can not accomplish the athletic feats you used to be able to.

Athletes are most likely to develop this condition than many others, but, of course, it is not impossible. Some people do not believe it, but there really is such a thing as drinking too much water! Hyponatremia is essentially water intoxication. It occurs when an incredibly high amount of water intake can result in a dangerously low sodium level, or sodium deficiency.

But you can help get the word out! When you think about it, too much of virtually anything is dangerous for the human body. Even foods or beverages that can also be very good for your overall health must be limited to a certain extent. It is like taking to many vitamins, or aspirin, or anti-inflammatory medications . . . too much water also threatens your body.
